Comprehensive interior renovation on fifth floor of HSS at 535 East 70th Street into specialized department for pediatric orthopedic and rheumatology care. Therapists, parents, and children were consulted by project architects SubenDougherty to design a beautiful, child-friendly space that facilitates a positive rehabilitation experience for patients and their families.

B.R. Fries’s work on the project included the construction of new waiting areas, twenty (20) examination rooms, twentyfive (25) in-patient rooms and three (3) separate x-ray rooms. The design of the space included serpentined-shaped corridors; special epoxy terrazzo floor throughout the space that emulates a flowing river, complete with swimming fish; custom water-jet cut vinyl floor; a special, tunable LED Lighting System; custom Corian® wall-panels with artistically routed patterns; a reception desk designed with a clear plexiglas facade filled with mutli-colored balls.
