Hospital For Special Surgery (Hss) Sports Medicine And Shoulder Service

HSS, rated #1 in the United States for Orthopedics, hired B.R. Fries to manage this critical two-phase project.

B.R. Fries constructed this project while the hospital remained fully occupied and operational. This “open store” hospital construction required stringent coordination to manage noise, dust and hospital interruptions during the construction process. The project scope included a reception center, 16 exam rooms, a radiology department, men’s and women’s bathrooms.

Doctors’ office fronts and corridors include anegre wood and frosted glass for privacy, with a clear glass transom running along the tops of the corridors to allow for the passage of light. An LED lighted art display system is incorporated into the walls showcase memorabilia from HSS’ many professional athlete clients.

The project objectives included improving the patient and doctor experience, and to effectively communicate the HSS brand. Drawing inspiration from HSS’s mission of restoring movement to patients, the reception area incorporates flowing 3D fiberglass feature walls along with barrel vaulted ceilings with zebra wood ceilings and decorative columns with LED lighting and etched glass.
