Kohl's

Kohl’s Corporation is department store chain operating more than 1,100 stores in 49 states.

B.R. Fries has completed multiple projects for Kohl’s including the Brooklyn and Staten Island stores which were built simultaneously.

The Brooklyn store was a conversion of a former K-Mart in the Caesar’s Bay Bazaar on Bay Parkway. The majority of the building was constructed over water including a portion of the elevator pit. The full rehabilitation includes all new mechanical and electrical systems, floor, walls and ceilings, and vertical transportation. Part of the second floor, which includes offices for the new Kohl’s store, extends above a Toys R Us store which remained open throughout the construction.

The Staten Island store on Forest Avenue is on the site of a former Major’s Department Store. B. R. Fries renovated the existing 75,000 square-foot dilapidated building, including full interior and exterior work including reinforcement of the existing structure, shoring and underpinning. B.R. Fries also constructed a new 55,000 square foot steel and concrete addition which involved the complexities of building over a high water table.

The Jersey City store was a 180,000 square foot gut renovation of a former Macy’s which is attached to the Newport Centre Mall. B. R. Fries installed new escalators, elevators, mechanical equipment and constructed the interior fit-out including electrical power, lighting, stone, carpet and millwork.
