LREI Performing Arts Center
B.R. Fries partnered with LREI (Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School)—a renowned leader in progressive education since 1921—to transform their existing multi-purpose gymnasium into a state-of-the-art performing arts center. With the arts at the core of LREI’s curriculum, this renovation elevated the school’s ability to support creative learning, performance, and community engagement.
Our team delivered a complete interior transformation that improved acoustics, audience comfort, and overall functionality. The project included the installation of a new balcony structure featuring built-in upholstered bench seating designed to enhance sightlines and create an elevated performance experience. The surrounding walls were finished with custom wood paneling, adding warmth, durability, and architectural character.
On the ground level, B.R. Fries installed new wood flooring and fabric acoustical wall panels to optimize sound quality throughout the space. The renovation also included updated egress pathways, emergency lighting, and full theatrical lighting integration to support a wide range of performances. Additionally, new ductwork was installed to provide efficient air conditioning, ensuring year-round comfort.
To complete the transformation, the existing plaster ceiling was restored and repainted, preserving the building’s architectural integrity while giving the space a polished, contemporary feel.
This project showcases B.R. Fries’ expertise in educational construction, performing arts environments, and complex interior renovations, delivering a high-quality, on-budget solution aligned with LREI’s mission of fostering creativity and innovation.
