Ronald McDonald House of Long Island

B.R. Fries completed a major expansion of the Long Island Ronald McDonald House, on the campus of Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, Queens. The project, the first expansion of the facility since it was opened in 1987, features a 5-story addition attached to the existing 2-story building. The expansion increases the number of family suites from 18 to 42 and provides an enlarged cooking and dining facility, as well as an additional lobby and a new children’s play space.

The new building is constructed of steel frame and concrete, with a light gauge metal and EIFS façade, and incorporates finishes that match the interior of the original structure. The Ronald McDonald House is a not-for-profit facility that provides low-cost or free housing and support for seriously ill children and their families who are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
